Japan

The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts has drawn students from many parts of the world and two of our Japanese alumni were asked to demonstrate their knowledge of the traditional crafts at The Nara Crafts Museum in November, 2008.

They were invited to work with Mr Tadashi Oshio, the Master Potter of Akahada-yaki, at his workshop.  Here they used traditional methods learned at The Prince’s School to apply Japanese patterns onto clay pots. Mr Oshio reported that they had opened a new dimension to the work in his studio.

This collaboration has resulted in a new venture to produce and to market contemporary crafts inspired by the traditional arts of Japan.
