The Flemish Technique -The mixed method of egg tempera and oil paint
2nd May - 6th May
at Great Western Studios , London
During this practical workshop students will explore the painting techniques and glazing recipes used by the Flemish masters of the late 15th century. Artists of this period combined the two mediums of egg and oil, integrating the virtues of both mediums into the one painting. Students will be carefully guided through the various stages of this unique technique. The workshop will include learning to make egg tempera and oil paints using natural pigments, underpainting in egg tempera, tonal composition, chiaroscuro and the development of the colour using traditional oil glazing mediums. This unique combination of egg and oil gives to the painting a jewel like quality.Students will need to bring their own brushes.
