Medieval Manuscript Illumination

Drawing from the medieval European tradition, students will be shown how to paint miniature designs and apply a variety of gilding techniques. Students will complete a number of small scale projects using different methods. This course will enable students to further their skills in manuscript illumination and decoration, whether they are beginners or already have some experience working with gold.

Tutor biography

Helen graduated with distinction from the School's M.A. programme in 2007 and has since worked as an illuminator and designer. Commissions include designing the Prince of Wales medal for arts philanthropy and the Arab-British Culture and Society Award 2009. Helen teaches on the School's M.A. and public programmes, and has assisted the School with workshops in Paris, Brunei and Oman, and also at the Art in Action festival in Oxfordshire.
