Bone China, Silver and Glass designs

Traditional Arts Ltd commissioned graduates of The Prince’s School to create designs suitable for reproduction on fine bone china, silver, and glass. The artists were asked to develop their designs from subjects chosen to highlight the work of The Prince’s School, from botanical illustration to traditional geometric design.

‘‘PRAISEWORTHY’’

For this design, Nassar Mansour (PhD 2007) chose an angular, square Kufic style of calligraphy to render the phrase, “Praise be to the Praiseworthy.”

‘‘KIRTIM FLOWER’’

Samantha Buckley (MA 2006) based her design on flower motifs drawn from an 11th century illuminated manuscript describing the medicinal uses of plants. The universalised representation of plant forms, common to all the traditional arts, is a celebration of the reflection of the divine order in the natural world.

‘‘SUN & MOON’’

At the heart of this design by Lisa DeLong (PhD 2007) is the lotus flower of Egyptian mythology. Also incorporated is a circular sun and moon
