Handmade Porcelain
Katya Nosyreva (MA 2005, current PhD student) was commissioned by Traditional Arts Ltd to produce these porcelain cups and bowls. She describes her work as, “an exploration of porcelain; its delicacy, translucency, and subtlety. The approach used emphasises simplicity: hand-thrown cups and bowls are individually stamped from a range of simple decorative elements, to bring out the natural beauty of the materials. Each piece begins with a circle, the most perfect geometric form, and develops into a unique expression of this fundamental theme when executed on the wheel. The subtle variations of the celadon glazes provide internal contrast. These cups and bowls are intended for daily use, in the belief that everyday items should be beautiful as well as functional.
