Painting & Patronage
The Painting & Patronage Programme, under the joint Presidency of HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, aims to build bridges of artistic and educational understanding between the Arab world and Europe to establish a deeper understanding of each other’s distinct and diverse cultures and traditions. It further aims to build on the first Painting & Patronage programme launched during 2000-2001 by the Presidents of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts and Painting & Patronage.
Painting & Patronage was established in Riyadh in 1999 by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal is the Governor of Makkah Province. His Royal Highness is also a well known artist, poet and champion of the arts. In 2007 Painting & Patronage was honoured by being granted the High Patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia. As an on-going royal initiative, Painting & Patronage is seeking to launch further exchange programmes with European, North and South American and Asian nations.
In the 2010/11 Painting & Patronage Programme a schools and community programme benefiting several thousand students will take place in London and Burnley. In addition, three students from Saudi Arabia will also join a Painting & Patronage year-long postgraduate programme at The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts. Plans are currently underway to extend the current Programme to other British and Saudi Arabian cities.
