Curves and Composition: Arabesque Design
|Dates:||10 October 2019 - 28 November 2019|
|Time:||18:30 - 21:00|
|Location:||The Prince's Foundation School of Traditional Arts|
Learn how to develop floral and foliate compositions inspired by historical examples, and create your own unique painted composition.
Begin by closely examining beautiful floral motifs in a variety of media and cultures, including examples from Iznik ceramics, carvings in the Alhambra, and medieval cathedrals. This will build an understanding of the key principles of compositional design used through the centuries.
Explore techniques such as geometric frameworks, drop repeats, turnover motifs, and tessellations through drawing and painting. These methods can be applied in many settings including textiles, wallpapers and ceramics.
As the course progresses, you will compile your own visual research and design analysis. By the end of the course, you will have a series of drawings and a finished, coloured painting.
