Inspired by selected patterns in mosques and madrassas in Shiraz and Persian poetry, learn to compose patterns using a compass, a straight edge and dazzling, symbolic colours.

Please bring a palette with wells, and brushes. Sizes will be specified closer to the start date of the course.

Tutor biography

Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh

Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh is an Iranian artist based in London. Her work explores the disciplines of Persian poetry manuscripts, sacred geometry and Persian miniatures. She has worked both as an academic and an artist in Iran, America and Europe.

For the last 20 years, Farkhondeh has regularly spent time living and studying under calligraphy masters in Iran. She graduated with distinction from The Prince's School's MA programme in 2011 and was awarded the Jerwood prize for Islamic traditional art.
