Using mallet, chisel and hand tools, learn the ancient art of stone carving and create a sculpture or architectural molding either in bas-relief or in the round.
This practical course introduces students to the traditional tools and techniques used to model and carve stone.
Students will experience the complete process involved in stone carving from sharpening chisels and selecting stone to laying out, tackling a three dimension design and the stages involved in carving, sanding and refining a substantial piece in limestone. There will also be instructions on how to build a workbench, where to locate stone and buy tools and how to develop skills further.
All necessary tools and materials are provided.
This course admits a maximum of 6 students.
Adam Williamson is an award-winning sculptor and skilled stone and wood carver. He has undertaken carving commissions for HRH The Prince of Wales, Oxford University, Shakespeare's Globe London, Kew Gardens, Westminster Abbey, Pakistan Embassy, British Council, Foreign Office in Vienna and London Zoo.
